Oxygen inhibition in UV curing

Oxygen inhibition in UV curing

After UV adhesive is cured by ultraviolet light irradiation, a sticky surface phenomenon may occur—known as oxygen inhibition. The primary cause of this phenomenon is the free-radical polymerization process. Typically, the UV curing process takes place in air, during which oxygen from the atmosphere gradually diffuses into the coating film. This oxygen competes with the free-radical polymerization reaction, effectively consuming the free radicals. As a result, the curing time of the adhesive is prolonged: while the bottom layer of the coating has already cured, the surface layer remains largely uncured, leading to the sticky appearance on the adhesive’s surface.

The Printing Process (Part 2): Printing Methods

The Printing Process (Part 2): Printing Methods

Printing methods can be classified according to the relative positions of image and non-image areas on the printing plate. The common printing techniques can be broadly divided into four major categories: letterpress printing, offset printing, gravure printing, and screen printing. It is essential to select the appropriate printing method based on the requirements of the printed material in order to achieve the desired results.

The Art of Printing (I): An Encyclopedia of Printing

Printing is a technology that involves transferring ink onto the surfaces of materials such as paper, textiles, plastics, and leather through processes including plate-making, inking, and applying pressure, thereby mass-replicating the content of original manuscripts—be it text, illustrations, photographs, or anti-counterfeiting elements.
