Silicone Performance and Applications

Silicone Performance and Applications

Organosilicon compounds, or organosilicon substances, are compounds that contain Si-O bonds and have at least one organic group directly bonded to a silicon atom. By convention, compounds in which organic groups are linked to silicon atoms via oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, or other elements are also often classified as organosilicon compounds. Among these, polysiloxanes—polymeric compounds whose backbone consists of siloxane linkages (-Si-O-Si-)—represent the largest and most extensively studied and widely used class of organosilicon compounds, accounting for more than 90% of the total usage.

Collection of Light-Curing Coating and Ink Formulations

Light-curing coatings and inks are materials that harden by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) radiation energy. They consist of resins, monomers, photoinitiators, and other additives, which, when exposed to UV light, form a strong and durable coating or printed image.

Introduction to the Main Raw Materials and Synthesis Overview of Light-Curing Resins

The main raw materials for light-curable resins include epoxy acrylates and polyurethane acrylates. Among these, epoxy acrylates can be categorized into: bisphenol A-type epoxies; phenolic epoxies; and o-methylphenolic epoxies. Polyurethane acrylates can be categorized into: polyether polyols; polyester diols; and polycarbonate diols.

Silane Coupling Agents: Chemistry and Applications

Silane Coupling Agents: Chemistry and Applications

Silane coupling agents can serve as elastic bridging agents between matrices, enhancing the adhesion between two materials with different chemical properties and thereby improving the overall performance of the resulting product—including mechanical properties, electrical insulation, resistance to aging, and water repellency. They can also be used as surface modifiers for materials, endowing them with properties such as water resistance, antistatic capability, mold resistance, odor prevention, anti-coagulation, and physiological inertness. Furthermore, they can act as crosslinking agents in non-crosslinked polymer systems, enabling curing under ambient temperature and pressure conditions.

Overview of UV Epoxy Acrylates

Overview of UV Epoxy Acrylates

The synthesis of epoxy acrylates was first reported as early as the 1950s; however, it was not until the 1970s that they began to be applied in the field of UV curing. Epoxy acrylates are produced by the esterification of commercially available epoxy resins with acrylic acid or methyl acrylate, and they currently represent the largest category of photopolymerizable oligomers consumed within China’s UV-curing industry.

Introduction to Photoinitiators and Their Applications

Introduction to Photoinitiators and Their Applications

A photoinitiator, also known as a photosensitizer or photocuring agent, is a class of compounds that can absorb energy at specific wavelengths in the ultraviolet (250–420 nm) or visible light (400–800 nm) range, generating free radicals, cations, and other species that initiate the polymerization, crosslinking, and curing of monomers.

Introduction to UV Adhesives and Their Applications

Introduction to UV Adhesives and Their Applications

UV adhesive, also known as shadowless glue, photosensitive adhesive, or ultraviolet-curing adhesive, refers to a class of adhesives that can only cure when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. It can be used both as an adhesive itself and as a binder in paints, coatings, inks, and other similar products. "UV" is the abbreviation for "Ultraviolet Rays," which refers to ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is invisible to the naked eye and represents a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum lying beyond the visible light range, with wavelengths ranging from 10 to 400 nanometers. The curing mechanism of UV adhesives relies on photoinitiators (or photosensitizers) contained within the UV-curable material. When these photoinitiators absorb UV light, they generate active free radicals or cations, which in turn trigger polymerization, crosslinking, and branching chemical reactions. As a result, the adhesive transforms from a liquid state into a solid state within just a few seconds.

Introduction to Light-Curable Monomers and Their Applications

A monomer (also known as a "momer") is a general term for small molecules that can undergo polymerization either with identical or different types of molecules. It is a simple compound capable of undergoing polymerization reactions, condensation reactions, and other processes to form macromolecular compounds. Monomers serve as low-molecular-weight raw materials used in the synthesis of polymers.
