Application of UV Resins in Wood and Building Material Coatings

1

Application areas

1. Flooring: Solid wood flooring, solid wood composite flooring, engineered flooring, bamboo flooring, and PVC resilient flooring;

2. Calcium silicate boards: interior and exterior wall tiles, floor tiles, and skirting boards;

3. Furniture: Solid wood (shaped), wood veneer, medium-density fiberboard, composite board, PVC edge banding, wooden doors (including door frames), aluminum alloy (ceilings);

2

Coating method

1. Roller coating

2. Dip coating

3. Spraying

4. Wipe and apply

5. Apply by brushing

Depending on the coating method used, the formulated products for construction have extremely high viscosity requirements. However, conventional UV resins tend to have relatively high viscosities, necessitating viscosity reduction either during formulation design or at the time of use.

3

Viscosity reduction method

1. Choose a resin with high solids content and low viscosity (narrow range).

2. Select a reasonable active monomer (use in large quantities)

3. Select a suitable organic solvent (only for spray application).

4. Coating heating application (continuous circulation)

4

Drying method

1. Heating and flow-assisting section: IR at approximately 50℃ with exhaust ventilation.

2. UV Curing: Mercury Lamps, Gallium Lamps (deep curing for solid-color systems), LED-UV

Wood-coating processes generally involve minimal waste of substrate materials; any defective products must be sanded and reworked. Therefore, sandability is a fundamental requirement for coatings. Putty and primers must both be sanded before the next coat is applied, while topcoats are used only on defects that can still be salvaged.

Brittle/Hard: Easy to polish;
Soft/tough: Difficult to polish.

Recommendations for the application of Bossin products on wood furniture

1. Epoxy Acrylate Series

B-113: Fast-curing versatility, standard product versatility;
B-123: Low-viscosity version of B-113, with universal applicability;
B-163/B-165: Flexible, fast-curing, sandable, flexible, modified general-purpose;
B-160D: For flexibility, we recommend a white matte finish with low viscosity, excellent leveling properties, and relatively good resistance to yellowing.

2. Polyurethane Acrylate Series

B-301: Toughness, rapid curing, topcoat with enhanced toughness, crack-resistant;
B-375: Fast-curing, yellowing-resistant, full-bodied, with high-gloss topcoat.
B-333/335: Low viscosity, easy to mat, yellowing-resistant, fast-curing, matte finish coating—widely used in PVC applications.
B-328M: Matte resin, matte finish coat, wood-plastic;
B-601: Tough, highly cross-linked; surface coating hardens further.
B-603: Low viscosity, high crosslinking; surface coating hardening agent.
B-650A: Low viscosity, high crosslinking, easy to achieve a matte finish, and provides increased hardness for matte topcoats;
B-6380-14A: Dual-purpose spray, matte powder-oriented, anti-sagging, and surface-effect controlled;
B-910A2: Low-viscosity, highly cross-linked, wear-resistant, yellowing-resistant topcoat;
B-912: Highly crosslinked, yellowing-resistant, abrasion-resistant, full-bodied, topcoat;

3. Polyester Acrylate Series

B-522: Inexpensive, with a dense base filler as the main component; the base filler helps control costs.
B-520: Low viscosity, soft, inexpensive, uses few monomers, and is applied as a primer via spray roller coating.
B-5226: Low viscosity, excellent substrate wetting, fast-curing and penetrating, widely applicable, solvent-free spray coating, suitable for pore-filling primers.
B-560: Fast curing, pigment wetting, color-additive system, solid base and surface;
B-525D: Fast curing, low yellowing, inexpensive, suitable as a full or partial replacement for epoxy in primer applications;
B-574C: Low viscosity, fast curing, high hardness; adjustable curing speed and hardness; suitable for both topcoats and base coats.

4. Other special modified series

B-21C: Antioxidant and polymerization inhibitor, active amine;
B-02: Improved adhesion, phosphate ester;
B-535: Adhesion promoter, recommended for melamine boards;
B-536: Adhesion promoter, recommended for PVC;
B-531: Adhesion promoter, for any material;
B-828: Silicone-based, stain-resistant, provides a smooth, slipperiness-enhancing feel, matte finish;
B-868: Silicone-based, highly cross-linked, stain- and abrasion-resistant, high-gloss;
T-2706: Silicone release, peelable, thin film;
