Introduction to Epoxy Acrylate
Release time:
2014-06-19 10:04

Epoxylacrylates (EA) are a class of prepolymers widely used in the UV curing field. The following are some commonly used types in the UV curing sector:
(1) Bisphenol A-type epoxy acrylate;
(2) Phenolic epoxy acrylate;
(3) Epoxy oil acrylate;
(4) Epoxy acrylate modified with acids and acid anhydrides.
EA is typically prepared by the reaction between epoxy resins and acrylic esters, and the preparation conditions vary depending on the specific type of EA. Catalysts that can promote the reaction between epoxy groups and carboxyl groups include strong bases and organic amines. The addition reaction between epoxy groups and carboxyl groups is exothermic. To prevent the unsaturated groups on the acrylic moiety from undergoing free-radical polymerization during the preparation of epoxy acrylates, it is crucial to select an appropriate polymerization inhibitor. Commonly used polymerization inhibitors include phenolic compounds, such as hydroquinone.
To reduce viscosity, a diluent can be added at the initial stage of the reaction or after the reaction has started. Temperature control is also one of the crucial process conditions: if the temperature is too low, the reaction will take a very long time to complete; if the temperature is too high, unsaturated double bonds are prone to polymerization or other side reactions, making it difficult to achieve the desired reaction and potentially leading to serious production accidents.

Properties of epoxy acrylate:
Advantages:
Light-curing reaction has a fast rate, excellent adhesion, good chemical resistance, high tensile strength, high gloss, excellent leveling properties, high fullness, and low cost.
Disadvantages:
The cured film lacks flexibility, has high brittleness, is not resistant to yellowing, and exhibits high viscosity.
