BM3380: 3EO-TMPTA

BM3380, ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate—commonly referred to as 3EO-TMPTA—is a trifunctional UV monomer widely used in fields such as UV coatings, UV inks, and 3D printing.

Compared to TMPTA, it has the following characteristics:

1. Compared to TMPTA, 3EO-TMPTA has a lower viscosity—TMPTA’s viscosity is typically around 70–110 cPs, whereas 3EO-TMPTA’s viscosity is only 50–70 cPs. The lower viscosity helps enhance the material’s fluidity and processability, making it easier to handle and apply in applications such as UV coatings and UV inks.

2. More flexible than TMPTA: With the addition of ethoxy groups, its molecular weight increases and its molecular chains become longer.

As the number of ethoxy groups increases, the flexibility of the cured film also increases. This enhanced flexibility helps reduce the material's brittleness, thereby improving its durability and impact resistance in practical applications. Skin irritation is reduced: this is crucial for enhancing the product’s safety and applicability. Water solubility is increased: this facilitates its use in water-based UV-curing systems, broadening its range of applications.

Starting December 1, 2023, the European Chemicals Agency has classified TMPTA as a Category 2 carcinogen. The search for alternatives to TMPTA has become urgently necessary. Ethoxylated TMPTA has already emerged as one promising alternative.
