Handling Poor Conditions in UV Gel Nail Polish (Part 6)
Release time:
2026-05-08 07:17
Insufficient curing refers to a situation where the gel polish remains sticky on the surface or retains a liquid consistency internally after curing. The root causes of this issue are inadequate curing energy or mismatches between the product and the curing equipment. Proper curing is the foundation for all performance characteristics; insufficient curing, however, renders the coating unusable. This article will discuss strategies for addressing insufficient curing from two perspectives: preventive measures and post‑curing remediation.
I. Preventive Measures for Insufficient Curing
1. Conduct regular inspections of the curing lamp’s condition. Use an energy meter to measure the UV lamp tube’s output power, and replace the lamp promptly if the measured value falls below the specified standard. For LED lamps, regularly check the LED chips for damage. The proper functioning of the curing lamp is the essential hardware foundation for ensuring optimal curing performance.
2. Set the curing time according to the product specifications. Curing times vary by product; dark-colored adhesives and thick-coat adhesives require longer curing times. Carefully read the product instructions and follow the recommended curing time—do not rely on experience to set a uniform curing time.
3. Select compatible products. For LED lamps, choose photoinitiators whose absorption peaks match the emission peaks of the LED light source. When purchasing, carefully review the product specifications to confirm whether the product is labeled as suitable for LED lamps. If you are uncertain, opt for a UV/LED dual-source adhesive, which offers better compatibility.
4. For dark-colored adhesives, apply thin coats in multiple layers. High pigment content in dark adhesives impedes light penetration; applying thin coats and increasing the number of layers ensures that each layer cures thoroughly. Avoid applying a single thick coat.
II. Remedial Measures Following Insufficient Curing
1. Handling surface tackiness: If only the surface is tacky, wipe it with a cleaning solution or an alcohol swab to remove the uncured adhesive layer. After wiping, check whether the surface is dry and free of stickiness; if tackiness persists, it indicates insufficient cure depth, and you should re-expose the material to UV/LED light or adjust the curing parameters.
2. Treatment of deeply uncured areas: If the surface has hardened but the interior remains wet, the coating must be thoroughly sanded down or completely removed and reapplied. Do not apply a new adhesive directly over an uncured layer, as residual uncured adhesive will continue to react, leading to discoloration or loss of adhesion.
III. Conclusion
Addressing insufficient curing requires a three-pronged approach: equipment maintenance, proper time setting, and product compatibility. Regularly inspect the status of the curing lamp to ensure its energy output meets specifications; set the curing time according to the product instructions and avoid shortening it arbitrarily; and select products that are compatible with the curing equipment. If insufficient curing occurs, the surface may feel sticky and can be wiped clean; however, if curing is incomplete at deeper layers, the coating must be removed and reapplied. Adequate curing is the foundation of coating performance, so investment in this step should never be cut.
