Application of UV Surface Treatment Technology in Automotive Interiors
Release time:
2024-05-09 16:43
Surface treatment technology, an indispensable component of modern manufacturing, has witnessed humanity’s leap from manual craftsmanship to mechanized and automated production throughout its development. As technology continues to advance, surface treatment processes are also undergoing constant innovation. People have begun to apply micro- and nanotechnology to material surface treatments, giving rise to numerous new surface engineering technologies. These technologies not only significantly enhance the performance of material surfaces but also help achieve goals such as environmental protection and energy conservation, providing strong support for the sustainable development of modern manufacturing. In recent years, the UV texture process, which has gained popularity in the mobile phone industry, has been steadily refined through ongoing technological research and improvement, and is now being adopted in the automotive industry as well. It has won widespread acclaim from both manufacturers and consumers. Of course, the automotive industry has even higher demands regarding environmental friendliness and durability.
UV texture technology can be applied to the texture design of automotive interior components, such as dashboards, center consoles, and door panels. Designers can leverage UV texture technology to create unique aesthetic and tactile effects, thereby enhancing the overall quality and sophistication of the interior. At the same time, UV texture technology can also enable special features like invisible windows. When the backlighting of an interior component is activated, the designed invisible windows—semi-transparent areas—become visible, offering passengers a novel visual experience. In the future, interior components that seamlessly integrate decoration with functionality will become even more innovative and stylish. Such future interior surfaces, which combine touch control, display capabilities, and decorative elements while integrating sound, light, and electricity, are commonly referred to as "smart automotive surfaces."

I. A UV Texturing Process Based on Photoresist
UV texture technology is a cutting-edge surface decoration process that ingeniously leverages physical optical structures to vividly showcase light, shadow, and color. It is both safe and environmentally friendly, making it one of the key emerging trends in future surface decoration techniques. The implementation of this technology involves several intricate and highly specialized technical approaches, among which the texture fabrication process based on PR (photoresist) occupies a central role.
In this manufacturing process, the texture patterns required by the customer are first meticulously designed on a computer. Subsequently, leveraging the well-established yellow-light lithography technique from the semiconductor industry, a master mold is precisely fabricated through steps including spin-coating photoresist, exposure, and development. Only one master mold needs to be produced, as it boasts exceptional precision and durability, serving as the benchmark for subsequent production runs. Once the master mold is completed, multiple replica molds can be efficiently replicated via spin-coating photoresist and imprinting techniques. These replica molds, acting as consumables, play a crucial role in the UV texture transfer process. However, since the texture pattern on the replica molds can wear down during the imprinting process, the replica molds must be replaced after a certain number of uses to ensure consistent product quality and yield. By regularly replacing the replica molds, UV texture technology can continuously and reliably produce high-quality textured products.

II. UV Texture Invisible Window Design
Under certain circumstances, to meet customers’ diverse needs, we can adopt technologies based on PR processes and combine them with other texture-making techniques to achieve more specific texture designs. For example, the commonly used UV-textured invisible window design is a concrete implementation of this concept.
First, the texture design must be completed, with careful consideration given to integrating the invisible window into the overall design. Next, we move on to the optical mold-making stage, where the master mold and the sub-mold are precisely fabricated. Following that, we employ a UV transfer process, combined with multiple steps including electroplating, screen printing, die-cutting, and injection molding, to meticulously craft the interior components. Particularly noteworthy is the special ink technology used for the invisible window area, which ensures that, in the absence of backlighting, the entire product presents a seamless, unified pattern, creating a flawless visual effect.
When the backlight of the interior trim component is activated, the previously hidden invisible windows (semi-transparent areas) embedded in the UV texture become clearly visible. Therefore, the specific functions, patterns, and visual effects of these invisible windows must be carefully planned and designed at the very initial stage of UV texture development—and their production must be completed accordingly—to ensure that the final product achieves a flawless presentation.

III. Processing Technologies for Other Materials
Moreover, as technology continues to advance, membrane materials made from genuine natural substances—such as wood, bamboo, and stone—are increasingly being used in automotive interiors. Unlike the conventional inlay techniques currently available on the market, these membranes made from authentic natural materials are meticulously polished during processing to achieve an ultra-thin profile, resulting in highly flexible membranes. These membranes are then precisely fitted onto the surfaces of structural components through an injection-molding process—rather than the traditional inlay method.
For example, injection molding of genuine wood chips: This process combines wood powder with plastic materials to produce products that exhibit both the texture of wood and the properties of plastic. Injection molding of genuine stone chips: An innovative molding technique that combines stone powder with plastic materials, and through specific technical methods, it can achieve a translucent effect.
The application of UV texture technology on smart automotive surfaces not only enhances the aesthetic appeal and premium feel of vehicles but also improves their resistance to corrosion and wear, while aligning with environmental protection and energy-saving requirements. As the automotive manufacturing industry continues to evolve and consumer demands for vehicle quality rise, the use of UV texture technology on smart automotive surfaces will become increasingly widespread.

Unveiling the Frosted Packaging Process Under UV Technology
The matte finishing process is a surface treatment technique that uses specific sanding methods on the surface of packaging boxes to create a directional matte effect. This process softens the glossiness of the packaging box, reduces surface reflection, and gives the packaging a more upscale, sophisticated, and high-end appearance. Depending on customer requirements, different types of abrasive grains, sanding materials, and sanding techniques can be selected to achieve various effects. Thanks to its customization capabilities, the matte finishing process can be applied to objects made from a wide range of materials—including metal, glass, and plastic—meeting the texture demands of different materials. Moreover, the matte finishing process can be tailored to individual design needs, enabling the product surface to exhibit unique effects that better align with personalized preferences.
