I. What is UV-curable ink?
UV-curable ink is an ink that undergoes a cross-linking reaction when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light with a wavelength ranging from 200 to 450 nm. Under the irradiation of UV light, this ink can instantly transform from a liquid state into a solid state; hence, it is also referred to as UV ink. Its main components include prepolymers, monomers, organic pigments, photoinitiators, and additives. UV ink boasts several advantages, such as rapid drying speed, high production efficiency, low curing energy consumption, excellent gloss, superior resistance, no solvent volatilization, and environmental friendliness. As a result, it is increasingly widely used in the printing industry and has become a new direction for ink development.
Among these, the photoinitiator plays a direct and critical role in determining the curing speed of the ink. A UV photoinitiator is a special chemical substance that can rapidly decompose upon exposure to UV light, generating free radicals or ions that trigger chemical reactions. These chemical reactions typically lead to the curing or crosslinking of the material surface, thereby achieving the purpose of UV drying.

II. Principle of UV Ink Curing
The photochemical reactions involved in UV curing primarily consist of three stages: chain initiation, chain propagation, and chain termination. In the chain-initiation stage, UV photoinitiators absorb ultraviolet energy, generating free radicals or ions. During the chain-propagation stage, these free radicals or ions react with molecules on the material’s surface through intermolecular energy transfer, thereby triggering a chain reaction. Finally, in the chain-termination stage, free radicals or ions react with each other, bringing the chain reaction to an end and resulting in the formation of a cured film.
Traditional inks primarily solidify through oxidation, with the solidification process progressing from the outside inward. Since the outer layer’s solidification affects the rate of solidification in the inner layers, the overall curing time tends to be relatively long. Inks based on solvents or water, on the other hand, rely on the evaporation of the solvent or water for curing, resulting in a relatively faster curing rate. Ultraviolet-curable inks, however, undergo rapid polymerization and film formation within an extremely short time span under the action of ultraviolet energy. Not only does UV light cure the surface of the ink, but its energy can also penetrate deeply into the liquid ink, further promoting thorough curing throughout the entire ink layer. Consequently, compared to traditional inks, UV-curable inks achieve more complete curing and drying—allowing the ink to fully solidify without releasing any volatile or solvent-based pollutants.

III. Scope of Printing Services
UV-curable inks have a wide range of applications and can be used with various traditional printing methods:
1. Printing methods: letterpress printing, gravure printing, screen printing, and inkjet printing, among others.
2. Printing materials: paper printing, plastic printing, metal surface printing, PCB printing, and more.
3. Printing and Packaging: Packaging for cigarettes, alcohol, cosmetics, health supplements, food, pharmaceuticals, and more.
4. Ink categories: UV matte, UV ice flower, UV foam, UV wrinkle, UV embossed, UV gloss varnish, and more.

IV. Main Characteristics of UV Inks
1. Fast curing speed: Traditional inks may take several minutes, or even days, to fully dry, whereas UV inks can cure rapidly under ultraviolet light—typically within just a few seconds to tens of seconds—significantly boosting production efficiency.
2. Excellent print quality: UV inks maintain uniform and consistent color throughout the printing process, with a durable ink layer that delivers excellent color and gloss, minimal dot distortion, and outstanding print results.
3. Excellent Performance: UV ink prints feature a robust ink layer with strong resistance to water, solvents, and abrasion, ensuring that the printed materials remain durable even after prolonged use.
4. Excellent environmental performance: A key feature of UV inks is their excellent environmental friendliness. UV inks use a solvent-free formulation, so they do not release organic volatile compounds into the air during printing and curing, thus avoiding environmental pollution.

Exploring the Application of Light-Curing in Vacuum Plating
Vacuum plating involves placing the object to be coated into a vacuum chamber and then heating it to a specific temperature, causing the metal or non-metallic material to enter an evaporated state. The evaporated material flies around in the vacuum environment and adheres to the surface of the object being coated. After cooling, a thin film is formed. This deposition process relies on the high-speed movement and collision of particles; therefore, the film deposition rate and film quality in vacuum plating depend on factors such as vacuum quality, material purity, temperature, the distance between the material and the substrate, and the duration of the deposition process.
Fun Facts About the UV Coating on PVC Flooring
PVC flooring is a highly popular new type of lightweight floor covering material, also known as "lightweight flooring." Its primary raw material is polyvinyl chloride, which is processed with additives such as fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, and colorants. It boasts numerous advantages, including excellent decorative appeal, ease of installation and maintenance, slip resistance, sound absorption, and wear resistance.
