1. Surface drying time
The time required for the surface of a wet paint film of a specified thickness to transition from a liquid state to a solid state while its underlying layer remains in a liquid state under the prescribed drying conditions.
2. Hard drying time
The time required for a liquid paint film of a specified thickness, applied under the prescribed drying conditions, to transform into a solid paint film.
3. Transparency
The ability of a substance to transmit light. Transparency can indicate whether varnishes, paints, and thinners are free of mechanical impurities and turbidity.
4. Density
The mass of an object per unit volume under specified humidity conditions.
The commonly used units are kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³) and grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³).
5. Viscosity
The internal resistance that a liquid exhibits to flow.
6. Solid content: non-volatile matter content; solids content
The amount of non-volatile substances contained in the coating.
It is generally expressed as the percentage by mass of non-volatile substances, or alternatively, as a volume percentage.
7. Fineness of grind
A measure of the degree of dispersion of pigments and extender pigments in a coating. Specifically, it is the reading obtained on a standard fineness meter under specified conditions; this reading indicates the depth of a particular groove on the fineness meter, typically expressed in micrometers (μm).
8. Storage stability
Under the specified conditions, the degree to which a coating product resists performance changes such as odors, consistency, skinning, coarsening, sedimentation, and clumping that may occur after storage.
9. Compatibility
The ability of one product to be mixed with another without causing adverse effects (such as precipitation, aggregation, or thickening).
10. Hiding power
The ability of a topcoat to eliminate color or color differences on the substrate.
11. Application property
The ease of application of the coating.
Note: Good workability of a coating generally means that the coating is easy to apply (by brushing, spraying, dipping, etc.), exhibits excellent leveling properties, and does not show defects such as sagging, wrinkling, edge retraction, color bleeding, or substrate etching. It also has moderate drying characteristics, is easy to sand, offers good recoatability, and has low requirements for the construction environment conditions.
12. Recoatability
The ease and effectiveness of applying multiple coats of the same paint.
13. Film thickness
The thickness of a paint film is typically measured in micrometers (μm).
14. Glossiness
An optical property of a surface, characterized by its ability to reflect light.
15. Adhesion
The degree of firm adhesion between the paint film and the substrate (through physical and chemical interactions). The substrate can be either a bare surface or a primed surface.
16. Hardness
The ability of a paint film to resist mechanical forces such as impacts, indentations, and scratches.
17. Flexibility
The ability of a paint film to conform to the shape of its substrate without sustaining damage.
18. Abrasion resistance
The resistance of a paint film to frictional forces.
19. Rubbing property
The ease with which a paint film or putty layer, after being sanded (either dry or wet) using materials such as pumice or sandpaper, can achieve a smooth, matte surface.
20. Yellowing
The tendency of the paint film to yellow during the aging process.
21. Resistance to moisture-induced deformation and temperature change
The ability of a paint film to maintain its original performance after undergoing alternating temperature changes between cold and hot.
