UV Skin-Feel Resin B-241

As a manufacturer of light-curing resins, Boxing New Materials has launched a UV skin-feel resin—B-241—tailored for a 254nm curing process.

B-241 is a bifunctional polyurethane acrylate that can be used as a base resin in UV skin-feel coatings. This resin features rapid matting, excellent skin-feel performance, and good resistance to yellowing.

The recommended recipe is as follows:

Now, let’s conduct a comparative analysis from the following aspects.

I. Coating Process

B-241 and the commercially available UV skin-feel resin A were each mixed uniformly according to the recommended formulation, then coated onto white PC boards (25 μm thickness) for testing. The following curing methods were employed:

1. First, cure once using a 395nm LED lamp with a curing energy of 100–200 mJ/cm².

2. Cure again using a 254nm UV lamp. B-241, when applied once over commercially available skin-feel resin A, becomes matte; after two applications, it is essentially surface-dry.

3. Finally, thoroughly cure using a UV mercury lamp at an energy level of 300 mJ/cm².

A parallel comparison of the two resins shows that both the B-241 formulation and the commercially available UV skin-feel resin A formulation exhibit excellent matte finish and superior skin-feel performance.

II. UV Yellowing Comparison

Two cured films were subjected to 10 passes through an UV mercury lamp, with each pass delivering an energy of 300 mJ/cm². The yellowing levels were then compared.

The above are comparison images after the UV treatment has been applied 10 times. The yellowing values are as follows:

Based on the images and resin samples, formulation B-241 exhibits initial and forced-machine UV yellowing behavior that is similar to that of commercially available skin-feel resin A.

III. QUV Yellowing Comparison

Place two cured films into a QUV tester and age them for 7 days, then compare their yellowing levels.

As clearly shown in the photo, after 7 days of QUV exposure, the coating on B-241 exhibits significantly less yellowing compared to the skin-feel resin A.

Here are the yellowing data for both:

According to the data, Scheme B-241 performs better than commercially available skin-feel resin A in terms of resistance to QUV.

B-241 is recommended for use in a curing system featuring a 395nm LED + 172nm/254nm UV mercury lamp.
