Handling Poor Conditions in UV Gel Nail Polish (Part 8)

Granulation refers to the formation of tiny raised bumps on the cured surface of gel polish, which feel rough to the touch. This issue is primarily caused by external environmental contamination and internal product contamination. Unlike defects such as brush marks and wrinkling, which are often attributable to application technique, granulation is more closely linked to environmental cleanliness and proper product maintenance. This article will discuss strategies for preventing granulation as well as methods for addressing it once it occurs.
I. Preventive Measures for Particles
1. Maintain a clean working environment. Clean the work surface before starting to minimize dust accumulation. Avoid working in areas directly exposed to air-conditioner vents or fan blow, as airflow can stir up dust. Nail salons may consider installing air-purification equipment. During the procedure, minimize movement and fabric friction to prevent dust from being stirred up.
2. Keep the product clean. After each use, promptly replace the cap to prevent dust from entering. Regularly wipe the bottle opening with a cleaning solution to remove any dried adhesive residue or clumps. When dispensing adhesive, after removing the brush from the bottle, scrape off any excess adhesive from the inner wall of the bottle opening—do not allow dried residue on the opening to contaminate the contents.
3. Prevent contamination of the brush head. Do not allow the brush head to come into contact with any uncleaned surfaces, including fingers, workstations, cotton pads, and the like. If the brush head accidentally touches skin or dust during application, wipe it clean with a cleaning solution before returning it to the bottle.
II. Post-Particle Formation Treatment Methods
1. Treatment of surface particles: If the particles are only floating on the coating surface, gently smooth them out with a sponge file, remove any dust, and then reapply the topcoat. Exercise light pressure during sanding to avoid abrading through the color coat.
2. Handling embedded particles: If particles are embedded within the coating, sand down the affected area to remove the particles, clean the surface, and then reapply the color coat and topcoat. If there are numerous particles distributed over a wide area, it is recommended to strip the entire coating and redo the work.
III. Conclusion
Addressing particulate contamination relies heavily on environmental control and routine maintenance. Keeping the work surface clean, promptly replacing bottle caps, cleaning the bottle opening, and preventing brush-head contamination—these seemingly minor details are crucial for minimizing particulate issues. Once particles have formed, surface-level particles can be sanded away, while embedded particles require localized repair or a full rework. The unique aspect of particulate problems is that preventive measures cost far less than remedial actions; the time invested in daily maintenance yields far better returns than the effort required for repairs.
